Barbara Alday

Barbara Jean "Big Mama" Alday, age 82 of Dalton, Georgia, passed away on April 11, 2024 in LaFayette, Georgia. She was born on December 12, 1941, in Dalton, Georgia. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and retired RN.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Pamela Reed, Marcia Alday, Angela (Randall) West, and Shannon (Mark) Chandler, her son John (Tracy) Alday, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Bramblett; her mother Dorothy Lee Fain Bramblett; and her loving husband of 42 years, John L. Alday, Sr.; and her infant brother, Bennie Edward Bramblett.

Barbara was a housewife until 1980 when she pursued a career in nursing. She graduated from Crawford Long School of Nursing, and later took a refresher course at Dalton State College in 1980, passed the boards and worked as a Registered Professional Nurse until her retirement in 2015.

She was of the Baptist faith. She loved raising her children, vacationing on St. George, fishing, reading, and spending time with her family.

A memorial service graveside will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Shepherd Hills Activity Department or Shriner's Hospital.
