Vera Ruth Mcclain

June 8, 1925 — November 16, 2015

Vera Ruth McClain, 90, moved into her Heavenly home on Monday, November 16th, 2015. Vera was born in Cambridge, MD on June 8th, 1925. She along with her brothers and sisters, was raised on farmland where tomatoes were the main source of income at a nickel per bushel basket. After finishing high school, one of her very first jobs was the Library of Congress in Washington, DC which led her to a very long and prominent career at the Federal Trade Commission. Vera achieved great success and eventually by the time of her retirement, had acquired and received many promotions and awards such as "Secretary of The Year". This brought much recognition to her hard work, allegiance and commitment to the United States Government. At an early age in life, she retired but continued with her love of music and singing. Vera was truly devoted to using her gifts and talents to serve the Lord and spread the gospel of her Savior Jesus Christ. Both her and her husband, Harold were faithful members of the Church of God throughout the course of their lives and were at one time served on the board at the National Church of God in Washington, DC. They spent many years singing and performing in the DC Metropolitan areas as a gospel duo and many times joined forces with David & Mary Fields and Leah Collier to entertain and witness to many as a fabulous quartet. Around 1985, Vera and her husband decided to enjoy their retirement and remaining years of life by moving to Cleveland, TN were they could be with their son David, his wife and their grandchildren. Once in Cleveland, Vera and Harold became devoted members of North Cleveland Church of God and never failed to keep their promise to one another as husband and wife. They continued serving the Lord until their very last breaths.
Vera joins in her Heavenly home her loving husband Harold P. McClain, parents Stewart & Anna Parker, sisters Betty Mazzella and Audrey Willey and two brothers Virgil Parker and Orion Parker.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory and legacy one son David H. McClain and his wife Georgine, two grandchildren Mac McClain and Gina Ernest and her husband Justin, three great grandchildren Jax Ernest, Jonas Ernest and Jaylee Ruth Ernest, two sisters Mary Fields and Leah Collier, one brother Paul Parker, many wonderful nephews, nieces, numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.
A celebration of her life is planned for Saturday, November 21st, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Dixon Chapel of the North Cleveland Church of God located at 335 11th Street NE in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Mitchell Maloney and the Reverend Paul Spell officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon in the Dixon Chapel from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM service time.
