Thelma Lee Lewis Humberd

Thelma Lee Lewis Humberd was born in Whitfield County, Georgia on April 24, 1921 to the late Joe and Laura Lewis. She was married to the late Calvin “Poss” Humberd. As a young person, she attended and was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Cohutta, Georgia where she was a member of the Concord Women’s Quartet along with friends Blanche and Modelle Sutton and sister Lucille. In later years she attended Sugar Creek United Methodist Church. She was well known for her love of gardening, fishing and her famous chocolate pies. She was the owner and manager of Humberd’s Grocery. She helped many people when they were down on their luck and tried to provide not only friendly service but kindness as well.
She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Humberd and grandson Joshua Humberd of Cleveland, TN; parents Joe and Laura Lewis; brothers Clyde Lewis and sister-in-law Ethel, Clifford Lewis and sister-in-law Pearl, Wilburn Lewis and sister-in-law Ruth and Hoyt Lewis and sister-in-law Ruby of Cohutta, Georgia; sister Lucille Burgner and brother-in-law Don of Cleveland, TN.
She is survived by her son Larry Humberd; daughter Susan Humberd ; daughter Carolyn Humberd Ellis and son-in-law Jimmy Ellis; granddaughters Shara Smith Troutner and husband John, Jami Ellis Standridge and Jennifer Ellis of Cleveland, Tn; great grandsons Alex, Joshua (London) and Nate Smith of Cleveland, TN; brother Willard Ernest Lewis and sister-in-law Betty of Cleveland, TN; sister Jean McIntire and brother-in-law Eugene of Crandall, GA; dear friend and sister-in-law Amy Fowler and sister-in-law Gladys Humberd of Cleveland, TN; several nephews and nieces, friends and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday May 4, 2017 at Union Missionary Baptist Church, located at 797 Hughes Lake Road, Cleveland, TN 37323.
A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 7:00pm with Rev. Jason Humberd and Rev. Jerry Herron officiating the service.
A graveside service is planned for 11:00am on Friday May 5, 2017 in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Pall bearers will be nephews Lynn Lewis, Carl Lewis, Joe McIntire, Ernie and Joe Lewis, Dennis and Donnie Burgner. Great grandsons will serve as honorary pall bearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sugar Creek Cemetery Association, in care of Scott Humberd at 487 Hawkins Rd SE Cleveland TN, 37323.
