Taylor Vaughn "Pepaw" Cawood

May 8, 1932 — March 11, 2021

Taylor Vaughn Cawood, “Pepaw”, 88, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN reached his Heavenly home on Thursday morning, March 11, 2021. He passed peacefully at Legacy Village surrounded by those he loved the most.

Taylor was born on May 8, 1932, to Taylor (killed in the line of duty prior to his birth) and Charlie Annie Cawood. Being the youngest of seven siblings and growing up without a father, he developed his faith, strong work ethic, and love for family at an early age. He met the love of his life, the late Jean Rogers Cawood in high school and was married for 63 years.
“Pepaw” was a proud, devoted, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His faith, family, friends, and the farm were the things he cherished the most.

Taylor was the happiest on Sunday afternoons when the entire family gathered for one of Mama Jean’s Sunday lunches after church or when he was with his Black Angus cattle on the farm. To know him, was to love him. His witty, mischievous yet kind personality lit up any room.
Taylor Cawood was a proud Bradley County farmer. He loved his Angus cows, rolling hills, tractor, and working the soil. In addition to farming, he was a real-estate agent and developer with Carroll and Greene Real Estate and Auction. Taylor was involved and served with many different organizations; East Tennessee Angus Association, Tennessee Angus Association (received TN Angus Association Family of the Year), Inductee into the Bradley County Agriculture Hall of Fame, Member of the American Angus Association, Bradley County Cattleman’s Association, Treasurer of the Bradley County Livestock Association are just to name a few. He was also a mentor to many 4-H families and livestock exhibitors.

Taylor was the beloved husband to the late Jean Cawood, devoted father of Sherry Spangler and her husband Ron of Cleveland; Randy Cawood and his wife Sue of Abbeville, SC; loving Grandfather to Brittany Cannon (Wade); Dr. Jason Spangler (Aubrie); Patrick Spangler (Jan) all of Cleveland; Allison Pettigrew (Joe) of Annapolis MD, Paul Cawood of Charleston, SC; Sarah Southerland (Carson) of Bluffton, SC; and 8 great-grandchildren: Taylor Cannon (his namesake), Carson Cannon, Abbi Reese Cannon, Paisley Spangler, Adelyn Spangler, Grady Spangler, Hudson and Houston Spangler. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Norman Barnard, Sisters-in-law, Joan Cawood, Joy Rogers, and Barbara Clowers as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Gladys Haney, Roy Lee Cawood, TJ Cawood, Louise Barnard, Juanita Cawood, Wayne Cawood, and brother-in-law, Ronald Rogers.

It was quite fitting that “Pepaw” took his last breath at Legacy Village because he leaves behind a legacy of a life well-lived and love that is unbreakable. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Legacy Village. They are truly angels here on earth. Thank you for loving and caring for our Dad and Pepaw. We will never forget you.

“The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.” -Proverbs 20:7. Taylor Cawood was a Godly man with great integrity. Blessed indeed are the children who followed him.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 3:00pm on Sunday March 14, 2021 at North Cleveland Baptist Church. A celebration of Taylor’s life will follow the visitation at 3:00pm at the church with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Dr. Jason Spangler, Patrick Spangler, Paul Cawood, Wade Cannon, Taylor Cannon and Carson Cannon

To help prevent the spread of Covid-19, masks and temperature checks are required at the door and the family requests that social distancing be practiced to the greatest extent possible.
