Margaret Mccullough Sorah

Margaret McCullough Sorah went to her heavenly home December 2, 2018. Born February 3, 1934 to Grace and Gordon McCullough, she lived her life in the Carters Valley Community of Surgoinsville, TN and married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Sorah, July 4, 1954. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, infant sister Annis Delana McCullough, infant son Phillip Ronald Sorah, her parents Grace and Gordon McCullough, mother and father-in-law Hazel and Robert Sorah, and grandson Ronald McDowell. Margaret lived her life in service for her Savior. She was a devoted Pastor's wife for 60 years. She enjoyed singing with the church choirs, Singing Grannies, and the Roaring 50's. She was actively involved as a helpmate with her husband, Ron, in the churches they lovingly served together. She displayed her faith daily by the unconditional love she spread to others as a pillar in the Calhoun community. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends. Her radiant smile and her bubbly personality were contagious. The family feels that everyone who came into her life had their picture taken by Margaret and she cherished her vast picture collection. She was a 1952 graduate of Surgoinsville High School. After raising her family, she courageously furthered her education at Cleveland State Community College. She obtained highest honors and special awards in the Business Department. After graduation, she used her business skills to help her husband with his pastoral studies. She worked at Calhoun Elementary School as she enjoyed loving and serving, not only her own grandchildren, but all of the children. Many times she would say, "I could be the only person hugging that child today." Margaret was lovingly known as Nana to her grandchildren. After becoming a Nana, many of her days were spent caring for her grandchildren. Many happy memories were made at Nana and Poppaw's house. The love she shared with family and friends was constant. Margaret was known for her open arms, open heart, and open-door attitude. She was an active member of her church family. Her current membership is at Calhoun First Baptist, Calhoun, TN where she and Ron served faithfully for 30 years. She leaves behind to cherish her memory four children: Judith Sorah, Cleveland, TN, Jonathan (Denise) Sorah, Calhoun, TN, Joseph (Teresa) Sorah, Knoxville, TN, Jeanne (Stan) McDowell, Calhoun, TN; eight grandchildren: Christina (Steve) Salisbury, Pigeon Forge, TN, Nathan (Ivia) Leamon, Calhoun, TN, Ryan (Brandy) Flowers, Cleveland, TN, Paul (Lindsey) Sorah, Athens, GA, Phillip (Courtney) McDowell, Cleveland, TN, Josh (Lauren) Sorah, Hendersonville, TN, Andrew (Alexa) Sorah, Louisville, KY, Natalie (Dustin) Vaughn, Knoxville, TN; ten great-grandchildren: Nicole and Michael Alexander, Washington, Tristen and Julian Leamon, Athens, TN, Lillian and Linkin Flowers, Cleveland, TN, Everly Sorah, Hendersonville, TN, Jon Paul Sorah, Lucy and Millie, Athens, GA, two brothers, Ed McCullough, Church Hill,TN, Gale (Nancy) McCullough, Surgoinsville,TN, one sister, Zula McCullough, Surgoinsville,TN and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Calhoun First Baptist Church, 107 Church St. Calhoun, TN. The memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Her son, Joe Sorah, brother-in-law Larry Sorah and Kevin Cheatham will deliver the memorial service. A graveside service and burial will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Calhoun Community Cemetery, Calhoun, TN. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Calhoun Community Cemetery Association, 335 County Road 20, Calhoun, TN 37309 or Calhoun First Baptist Church (Building Fund), 107 Church Street, Calhoun, TN 37309.
