Lowell Maurice Malliett

July 26, 1927 — April 21, 2020

Lowell Maurice Malliett, 92 of Bourbonnais, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 in Cleveland, TN. Lowell served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the Navy with he rank of Commander. He served in China, Okinawa, Taiwan, Vietnam, Pearl Harbor and many of the Pacific Islands as an Infantryman and Flight Navigator in various Marine Corps Squadrons. He later became a Chaplin for the Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, after serving in World Warr II. After serving in the Marine Corps, Lowell attended college to become a minister and worked as a pastor for 13 years and also an adjunct professor at Michigan State. He then reenlisted into the Navy as a Chaplain for the Marine Corps. After retiring, Lowell served at Olivet Nazarene University as the Director of International Students, also as an adjunct Professor of Psychology, a Hospital Chaplain, and a Pastoral Care Minister. Finally, at the age of 67, he earned a Doctorate of Ministry from Trinity International Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. After retirement, he taught as a flight instructor and enjoyed flying, woodwork and hiking. Visiting with Lowell was like a visit with a historian and theologian. He was such a humble man of vast knowledge, yet a giant when you realized all of his accomplishments. What a life well lived.

Lowell is preceded in death by both parents, Maurice, and Inga Malliett; brother, Phillip and Fredrick Malliett; sisters, Dorothy and Patricia.

Survived by his wife, Barbara Louise (Helmker) Malliett; sons, Gregory, and Brian Malliett; daughters Denise Wilson and Melissa Berry; siblings, Ingrid and Sylvia; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

A Memorial service will be held at the Chapel of Lee University Campus, 1020 North Ocoee Street. Cleveland, TN 37311 at 11:00 am on April 25, 2020.
