Lewis A. Labar

Lewis A LaBar, 88, of Cleveland, TN, passed away Saturday, February 6. 2016. Lewis was born in Newton Falls, NY, to the late Almon and Keitha LaBar. He spent his childhood in Canton, NY, in the Adirondack Mountains Park. He graduated from Union Springs Academy, Union Springs, NY in 1946. He earned a B.A. from Atlantic Union College, in South Lancaster, MA, in 1956. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a medic. He was drafted twice during college, in two different wars: Japan’s occupation force and in the Korean conflict. He worked in administrative roles in the SDA denominational healthcare system. For his last two decades, he was a long-term care administrator. He retired to Florida and Tennessee. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Walker LaBar, of Loma Linda, CA; his children: Gary LaBar, Brenda LaBar and Sandi LaBar Calvert; his grandchildren: Brandy Keaton, Tuesday Sugars, Courtney and Kindsey Calvert; 4 great grandchildren; his sister, Marie LaBar Wilcox; his nieces: Diane Wilcox, Tamara Barker; his nephews: Ronald Wilcox, Bradley and James Walker. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 4:00 PM, at Companion Funeral Service in Cleveland, TN. Memorial contributions may be given to Union Springs Academy and Atlantic Union College in lieu of flowers.
