Johnny Ray "John" Maples

Johnny (John) Ray Maples born 6/26/1939 in Knoxville, TN passed away 6/6/2022. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Martin Dennis and his father John Moses Maples. He is survived by his loving wife Astrid (nee Allen), sisters Joy (Najm), Beverly Jean (Cole), children Stephen R., Sarah Lou (Alvey), and Jon Matthew. Grandchildren Noah, Makayla and Makenzie (Alvey) and great-granddaughter Emma Lou Maples as well as many nieces and nephews, stepdaughter Anissa Harrell and eight step-grandchildren.
John served four years in the US Navy and was Chief Engineer for several radio stations, including WNOX, U102, and Star 93.1. He retired in 2008 after working 10 years at Ten-Tec. He totally enjoyed being the #1 Curmudgeon wherever he worked. Even more, he enjoyed being “Daddy Dawg” to “Mama Dawg” and his 4 beloved little rescue dogs.
There was a Celebration of Life 80th birthday party in lieu of a funeral so that he could attend and enjoy the celebration. No services are planned.
