John Lichnovsky "Jt" Thomas

Obituary

On the evening of October 12, 2014, John Lichnovsky “JT” Thomas, 77, passed away while surrounded by family and friends in Chattanooga, TN after a courageous fight with lung cancer.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, John grew up in Denver, Colorado, hiking, fishing, and camping in his beloved Rocky Mountains.

He enjoyed great success as an upper level executive at a number of corporations, including the Heil Company, American LaFrance, Ernest Holmes Company, DeVilbiss, DHI Equipment and BECCA, Inc., from which he retired earlier this summer.

John’s passions included riding mountain bikes, the outdoors, art, music and world travel. He was an avid reader, and his terrific sense of humor, wide-ranging interests and fascinating life all combined to make him a world-class conversationalist.

John is survived by his sister, Teresa Lindem, of Elmhurst, IL, son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Charles Thomas and Grace E. Daniell of Chattanooga, daughter and son-in-law, Ann Thomas Hartzell and Andrew W. Hartzell of Savannah, GA, beloved granddaughter, Caroline Daniell Thomas, nieces, nephews and many loving friends. Karen Jacobsen Thomas of Chattanooga, the mother of his children, also survives him.

Gatherings celebrating John’s life will take place in Chattanooga and Savannah at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring John can be made to Kashi Atlanta Ashram, 1681 McLendon Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30307.

You are encouraged to share a memory of John and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial web page and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com.
