Evelyn Louise Shelton

Evelyn Louise Shelton, 84, of Cleveland passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Ravenden, AR and was raised in Cleveland. She relocated to Illinois after marrying her husband and returned to Cleveland in 2006. Evelyn was a very talented musician and singer. She sang in a country and gospel group for years. She also loved to paint and do crafts and she was an amazing person filled with joy and laughter. She was loved by all. Evelyn was Church of God by faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Leonard and Garnet Earlene Holder; her husband, Lester Shelton; a brother, Charles Wesley Holder; a grandson, Curtis Lee Kapteina; and an infant great grandson, Jordan Hooper.
Survivors include her children, David Kapteina (Joan), Dennis Kapteina (Barbara Lange), Darrell Kapteina (Peggy), and Donna Payton (Jack); two sisters, Sharon Holder and Joyce Dees (Kenneth); 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10am to 11am, Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Companion Funeral Home in Cleveland. A celebration of life will follow in the chapel at 11am with Rev. Tony Lane and Rev. Kenneth Dees officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will serve as pallbearers.
