Eugene Raymond Black

August 26, 1928 — April 22, 2020

Eugene Raymond Black, 91, of Cleveland, passed away on April 22, 2020. He was born on August 26, 1928 to the late Raymond M. and Bessie Mae Smith Black in Ringgold, Georgia. Eugene proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he worked as a Deputy Electrical Inspector for the Cleveland, Bradley and Polk County areas for 25 years. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time on the river. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Woodman of the World. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Black; parents; brother, Dewey Black; and sisters, Frances McGehee and Elizabeth Sampson.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Jeff (Sandra) Black; granddaughters, Mary Beth Black of New York, Natasha (Charles) Stewart and Candace (Shaun) Vandergriff; grandsons, Jayden and Jayson Vandergriff; and special family, Venicia O’Bannon, Jacob Anderson and Amanda Troyer.

The family will hold a private service and burial in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
