Ethel Evelyn Leith Fulton

Ethel Evelyn Leith Fulton, age 103, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015, in Cleveland, Tennessee. Mrs. Fulton was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on February 14, 1912, the daughter of the late Margaret Clark Leith Bulmer and the late Evan Douglas Leith. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Ephriam T. Bulmer; brother Donald Clark Bulmer and husband Howard Foster Fulton, to whom she was married on December 14, 1940, in Quebec City. They were married for 68 years. After graduating in 1933from the Jeffery Hales Hospital School of Nursing in Quebec City, Mrs. Fulton worked as a nurse until she immigrated to the United States with her husband and children in 1955. She became a citizen in 1991. As a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, she was active in the altar guild and the St. Lukes Christmas Bazaar. She was a founding member of the Cleveland-Athens Cotillion, loved playing bridge with her friends, working in her raspberry garden, and knitting sweaters and sewing for her grandchildren, but her greatest joy was being involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the heartbeat of her family. She is survived by her son, James Howard Fulton, of Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Margaret Fulton Busbin of Rome, GA and Judith Fulton Varnell, Cleveland, Tennessee; grandchildren, Mary Angela Rhodes of Frankfort, KY; Shelley Rhodes Heckenberg of Goshen, KY; Judith Rhodes Jones and her husband, Jason, of Atlanta, GA; Kate Rhodes Garmon and her husband, Kevin, of Cumming, GA; Marny Varnell Birkitt and her husband, John Gustin, of Middleburg, VA; Robert Wayne Varnell and his wife, Kelli, of Cleveland, TN; Kristen Fulton Knopick and her husband, Paul, of Chattanooga, TN; and Megan Montileone Fulton of New York City, NY ; and great grandchildren: Taylor and Emma Heckenberg, Hunter and Foster Jones, Harris, Wilson, and Elizabeth Garmon and Ethan Varnell, Madilynn Maselli, and Virginia Birkitt; and her brother Harold Douglas Bulmer of Kingston, Ontario.Memorial donations in her honor may be made to St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 320 Broad St. NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday October 28, 2015, at St. Lukes Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00pm in the parish hall of the church. Interment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens following the service.
