Obituary

Willis Eddie Edward Corum, Jr, 68, of Cleveland, TN, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 pm, Monday August 10, at Mt Olive Ministries, Cleveland, TN. Pastor Gary Sears will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 at the church, preceding the service. Prior to becoming disabled, Eddie attended Mt Olive Ministries, feeling a deep connection to his faith and a great respect for Pastor Sears. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt Olive ministries or to the Ashlyn Lamberth Scholarship Fund, via Community Foundation of Cleveland and Bradley County.
Eddie was born May 26, 1947 in Knoxville, TN to Willis and Ethel Corum. Shortly after school, Eddie followed in his fathers footsteps by enrolling into Barbering School. He went to work for Willis at the Village Barbershop in 1962. Later, he and Darvin Mathews branched out and opened Northwest Barbershop on Keith St in Cleveland. Eddie was a star athlete, most notably playing softball in the National Slow-Pitch Conference. He was drafted into the league to play for a team out of Concord, CA. He was known for his homers, at one time blasting 41 home runs in just 6 games. Eddie was also heavily involved in local sports, especially when his son, Jason, was involved - never missing a practice and serving as an unknowing role model for many young men in our community. The Cleveland Recreation Department honored Eddie in 2013 with induction into the Old Timers Hall of Fame, intended to celebrate individuals who have had profound impact in local sports programs. In more recent years, he and wife, Carol, purchased some property in Hickman County, TN. Eddie and Carol loved going to the property on the weekends, spending time with the grandkids, 4-wheeling, fishing, hunting and working on the property. Many fun and interesting stories came from the time that they spent there. Eddie believed in brutal honesty. He stood up for what he believed to be right and was a champion for those he felt had been mistreated. He loved his family, especially the grandchildren, and would fight you over bones and left overs if you happened to make the mistake of throwing them away those were supposed to go to Baxter and Briny, his beloved dogs.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Carol Mathews Corum; his sons, Jason Corum with wife Dallas and Heath Mathews; his daughters, Lea Corum and Shelley Mathews; 6 grandchildren, Morgan, Garrett and Major Corum, Taylor Park and Brittany and Joe Bohr; 2 great grandchildren, Brendon and Emma; brothers, Howard Hensley and Gilbert Hensley; and dear friend, Bill Parm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Ethel Corum; step mother, Mary Lou Corum; brother, Kenneth Hensley; and dear friends, Darvin Mathews and Gary Frog Fields.
See ya, old boy
