Donna Blackmon

May 12, 1944 — August 9, 2021

Donna Blackmon passed away on August 9, 2021, at home in Decatur, TN. Donna fought a good fight before finally succumbing to her three-year battle with cancer. She was a disciple of Christ and a true believer. She retired from American Uniform Company.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fletcher Rowland and Lee Vada Rowland, and her husband, James “Buddy” Collins.

She is survived by her husband, William “Bo” Blackmon; sons: Michael (Robin) Blackmon of Rome, GA and Scott Blackmon of Homewood, AL; granddaughter, Abby Blackmon of Birmingham, AL; grandson, Reid Blackmon, student at University of Alabama; sisters-in-law: Nancy (Louie) Alford and Mary Blackmon; several nieces and nephews; and cousins: Connie Donahoo and Debbie Cunningham.

Donna’s story is one of family. Her loving parents raised her and gave her the family of love and identity. Then the Collins family accepted and loved her as their own after her marriage to “Buddy” Collins. They have remained close over the years, and she became special to Pat Collins and Julia Collins. She found her Blackmon family when she met her husband, William “Bo” Blackmon, at their 35 year high school reunion. Donna became great friends with Eula Blackmon Jones and enjoyed her time visiting with “Nana.” She also became a big part of her future grandchildren’s lives when she would babysit for young Abby and Reid Blackmon. The entire Blackmon family loved Donna and will sadly miss her. She was a vital part of our family for longer than the 16 years of her marriage to Bo. If love could have saved her, she would still be with us.

We would like to thank her Choo Choo Shag Club friends, former classmates, and numerous other friends for their thoughts and prayers during her battle with cancer. We would also like to thank Dr. Tran and the staff at Tennessee Oncology for their love and support while treating her. Special thanks to Nicole, Paige, and Michelle of Hearth Hospice Care for their love and support for Donna during their time with her. Dorothy Foster was a tremendous help as well.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity. Family will receive friends Sunday 29th from 2:00P.M. – 4:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service at 4:00 at Companion Funeral Home Chapel.
