Dino Nicholaou

Obituary
A fighter to the end, Dino Nicholaou passed away at home on Saturday,'2/7 with his family by his side - wife Cherry and daughters Nikki and Robin.
Born on April 27, 1947 in Nogales, AZ to immigrant parents Nick and Maria Nicholaou, Dino contracted polio as a 5 year old. Despite being in the hospital for a year, he flourished in school and eventually graduated from University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering. While there, he married the former Cheryl Cole.
Soon after Dino began a lifelong career with the Olin (Arch) Chemical Corporation. Rising thru the company as a Process Engineer, he was named Director of International Safety in 1986. In this capacity, he logged over 2.2 million air miles designing and supervising the construction of chemical plants all around the world. Notable projects include developing the fuel for the Space Shuttle, building a plant in Venezuela during a military coup, and designing a facility that makes the chemical etcher for Intel computer chips. After stints in Lake Charles, LA, Brandenburg, KY, Cleveland, TN, Mesa and Gold Canyon, AZ, Dino and Cherry retired to Cleveland, TN in 2006.
Dino leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Cheryl Cole Nicholaou, two daughters, Nikki Burton and Robin Lowe, son-in-law Jim Burton, 6 grandchildren Callaway, Ashtyn, Lillian, Cole, Paisley, and Campbell, and a loving Beagle, Molly.
Visitation will be at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Saturday, 2/14 from 1-3pm with Funeral service following at 3pm. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Shriners who were a great assistance during Dino’s childhood polio treatment.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Dino or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral and Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Nicholaou family with these arrangements.
