David "Bear" Oscar Maples

Obituary


David "Bear" Oscar Maples, 74, was born on June 23rd, 1940 and went home to be with his Lord on October 2nd, 2014 at his home in Cleveland, TN.

He is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Martha Baldwin Maples. David attended Macedonia Baptist Church. His hobbies included old cars, hunting, fishing and he especially loved camping. Bear started working as a painter with his father when he was a teenager before he became a long distance truck driver which he did for 55 years. He enjoyed people and was a good friend to many, a good father and loving husband.

Bear leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years Ann Johnston Maples, one daughter Martha Roxann Stokes and her husband Larry of Georgetown, TN, two sons Randolph "Randy" Jackson Maples of St. Joseph, MI and David "Andy" Anderson Maples and his wife Tonya of Cleveland, TN, two brothers Paul Maples and wife Marie and Donald Maples and wife Kathleen both of Cleveland, TN, two sisters Claudia Wilson and husband Donald of Old Fort, TN and Linda Kay Gatlin and husband Dale of Cleveland, TN , a step grandson Kinser Crawford and several nieces, nephews and numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 6th, 2014 from 1:00PM until 4:00 PM at the Macedonia Baptist Church located at 3119 Spring Place Road in Cleveland, TN.

The visitation period will conclude with a celebration of his life service at 4:00 PM with the Reverend Herbert Conley officiating. Interment will follow in the Cedar Spring Cemetery with Donald Maples Jr., Jack Cavett, Mac Johnson, Tim Price, John David Ownby and Tray Lewis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Whaley, Johnny Lewis, Keith Lewis, Rick Brown, Kinser Crawford and Robert Sylvester. The service will conclude with a white dove release.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416 in Bear's memory.
