Betty Carolyn Lawson

Betty Carolyn Lawson, 87, resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at a local hospital. Betty was born August 1, 1932 in Polk County, TN to Albert Cobb and Mary Carolyn Lawson. She graduated from Polk County High School in the late 1940s and was the first female taxi cab driver in Cleveland, TN. She also worked at Doc and Flows Sandwich Shop where she was a bouncer and then she after working for seventeen years for JH Kellman Co. she retired. She was loved by family, neighbors and friends. She will be remembered sitting on her front porch for the last 45 years, enjoying life and eating Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies, her favorite. She is preceded in death by her parents Albert Cobb and Mary Carolyn Lawson; brothers William Lawson, Houston Philips and Claud Philips; sister Dorothy Philips. Left behind to cherish her memory is her son Michael D. Lawson and his wife Beverly Hickman Lawson; grandchildren Michael D. Lawson, Jr., Alex T. Lawson, Andrew T. Lawson(Jenna), Nathan Porterfield(Jessica), Whitney Rudolph(Jessie); great-grandchildren Aiden, Felicity, and Kinsley Rudolph, Henry and Alluara Porterfield and several nieces, nephews and other family members. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Companion Funeral Home with celebration of life service to follow at Cooksen Creek Cemetery (1686 Sand Mountain Rd, Ocoee, TN 37361).
