Anne Stark Newman

May 7, 1946 — March 31, 2018

Anne Stark Newman of Cleveland and formerly of Winchester, Virginia, passed away at home on March 31, 2018. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 7, 1946 to the late William Irving Stark, Jr. and Barbara Tower Stark. Her physical disability has been overcome as she now walks comfortably with her Savior.

Anne was a woman with so many gifts and talents. She was an incredible musician and singer, writing and performing hundreds of songs, commercial jingles, singing telegrams and musical scores. She worked with children and organized children’s choirs both in Virginia and Cleveland. In the words of Ruthie Forgey of the Salvation Army, “She penned countless poems and stories with wit, humor and profound insight that only comes from living life authentically. She was a woman of faith and much of her music and poetry reflected her dependence on and relationship with her Heavenly Father. Anne was an encourager, she was kind and she was generous, often helping people who were in a rough patch, extending grace and care without judgement. She was also known for rescuing countless animals, especially horses, and nursed many back to full health. Anne was well loved and loved well. I am so grateful to have known her, to have loved her and to have been loved by her. May God’s peace and comfort surround friends and family until we see her again.”

Anne is remembered lovingly by her husband, Dean Nuri Newman, her son, Justin Krey Newman, her daughter-in-law Ashley Kaye Reynolds Newman of Cleveland and her brother, Alden Krey Stark of Newport, New Hampshire.

A memorial service will be held at the Salvation Army Church at 437 Inman Street, West, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 7. A private burial will be in the Brewster, Massachusetts Lower Road Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Anne's memory may be made to the Cleveland, Tennessee, Salvation Army Corps, 437 Inman St. W, Cleveland, TN 37311, or to any animal rescue or pro-life organization of your choice.

You are invited to share a personal memory of Anne or your condolences with her family at her online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral and Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Newman family with these arrangements.
