Amos Rule Boruff

January 27, 1934 — May 15, 2018

Amos Rule Boruff, a resident of Charleston, and former resident of Sweetwater, Athens, Cleveland and of Riverview, FL passed away Tuesday morning peacefully at home.
Born in Knox County, he was raised in Sweetwater where he played running back for the Sweetwater High Wildcats. He loved the Lord and showed it in the way that he lived and carried himself. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and was especially fond of his five great-grandchildren. He enjoyed keeping up with the Braves, the Vols and NASCAR.
He has been a resident of Bradley County since his 1999 retirement from TIDFA in Tampa FL. He taught Sunday school for several years in Baptist churches, and was ordained as deacon at Clingan Ridge Baptist. He also attended Bethel Baptist in Riverview, Florida and Westwood Baptist in Cleveland.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Boruff Bright, and grandson, Brian Sherrill; parents, Arthur "Hot Shot" and Lena Boruff; Sisters, Opal Wilkins and Nancy White, and brother, Clyde Boruff.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years, Betty Jo Boruff, and one daughter, Donna (Dennis) Anderson of Charleston; three grandchildren, Angie Anderson of Cleveland, Aubrey (Donald) Poythress of Mt Juliet, and Haley (Johnny) Anderson-Hoffer of Superior, CO; great-grandchildren, Gage, Addison and Gunner Anderson of Cleveland, and Oren and Aaron Poythress of Mt Juliet; sisters, Juanita Best, Evalena (David) Jenkins, and Mary Jane Boruff, all of Sweetwater; brothers-in-law, Jackie (Nancy) Farmer of Valrico, FL and Dewey Farmer of Pearcy, AR, and sister-in-law, Sue (Buddy) Butler of Charleston.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, May 19 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home with Jimmy Caywood officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday 12 – 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Andy and Audy Fry, Donnie Wilkins, Calvin and Jeff Jenkins, and Gage Anderson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you give to a worthy charity in honor of their loved one.
