Marion Sylvia Baker
August 3rd, 1938 - October 23rd, 2016
Sylvia, the first born daughter and second child of Clarencio and Victoria Lezama (both deceased), was born on August 3rd, 1938 in the town of Rio Claro in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. She received her early education in Rio Clario, and later moved with her parents to the Borough of Point Fortin, where she taught a kindergarten class. While living there she came to know and accept the Lord at the Point Fortin Seventh-Day Adventist church. While attending church there, one day she met a handsome young visiting pastor by the name of Wellington Adolphus Baker. They courted for approximately one year and were married on August 3rd, 1958 (her 20th birthday).
During their early married life they were called to pastor on the island of Grenada, West Indies there she gave birth to their first son, Wellington A. Baker Jr (deceased) and their first daughter Carolyn R. Baker. They were called back to serve in Rio Claro where she gave birth to their second son Wilbert A. Baker. Upon completion of their assignment, they migrated to Brooklyn, New York, USA where their second daughter Cheryl K. Baker-Anthony and third son Wendell M. Baker (deceased) were born.
They later moved to Rochester, New York where she worked and studied hard to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as an LPN until her retirement in 1994. Sylvia lived in New York State, US Virgin Islands, Florida, and finally the state of Tennessee until her passing.
Sylvia was active in church in many capacities to include Sabbath School Superintendent, becoming a Master Guide, and her true love, directing the choir at Perrine SDA church. She was a loving, caring soul who always came to the assistance of those in need. Her home was always filled with family and friends. Sylvia was truly the second matriarch (or Madea) of the Lezama clan. Strong willed and family oriented, she was responsible for helping all her siblings and family to migrate to the United States. She will be greatly missed by her husband, family, friends and church family.
Sylvia leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Wellington A. Baker; Children: Carolyn R. Baker, Wilbert Baker, Cheryl Baker Anthony (Learie); Sisters: Theresa Lezama, Clarencia Lezama, Thecla Pierce-de Gannes (Sammy); Brothers: Cyril Lezama (Merle), Victor Claudie Lezama, and Nonan R. Lezama (Catherine). Eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.
Rest in Peace in the Lord Marion Sylvia Baker, and may the Lord take you in His arms where you will find peace perfect peace.
Love you always.
