Frederick Phillips

August 2, 1941 — March 23, 2017

Frederick “Fred” William Phillips, 75, of Turtletown, TN passed away on March 23, 2017 at Life Care Center of Copper Basin.
He was born in Lodi, OH to the late Frederick William Phillips, Sr. and the late Elsie Phillips Fetzer. Fred was of the Methodist faith. He owned and operated the Akron Medina Towing and Truck Service for 15 years. After selling that business, he open Victorian Photography Studio. The last part of his career, he spent driving oversized hazmat loads for Rich’s Towing and Truck Service, in Brookpark, Ohio. His hobbies included being avid cycle rider, having over 100,000 miles on his BMW. Fred was a special sheriff’s deputy and rode his Harley on patrols and in parades. He shot pistol competition with the sheriff’s department. He moved to Tennessee in 1998 where he and his family enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially while camping. He was a beloved husband, wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Fred leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Jane L. Smyth Phillips, children; Sonya Mooney (Gene), of Medina, OH, Joleen Moehle (Robert), of Gold Canyon, AZ, Sharon Leporati (Tom), of Copperhill, TN, Frederick “Rick” Phillips (Sandra), of Hixson, TN, and John Phillips (Shannon), of Summerville, SC; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Larry Phillips (Sandy) of Medina, OH and William “Bill” Phillips (Bobbie), of Texas; step-sisters, Trudy, Elaine, and Phyllis; step-brother, Leslie Fetzer.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tasha McPherson, and one great-granddaughter, Wesley McPherson Casey.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Fred’s name to the charity of your choice.
