Xavier Koons

Xavier Ezekiel Koons, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2024. At just 19 years old, he leaves behind his adoptive parents, Daniel and Holly Koons, along with his siblings Yasmine, Emma, Jaylin, Selah, and Isaiah. Xavier also leaves behind many grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Xavier was born on December 10, 2004 in Grand Rapids. At 18, he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where he reconnected with birth relatives and started to make a life for himself. Xavier loved music and spending time with friends. He often played guitar, wrote song lyrics, and he enjoyed sharing his music with others.

Having journeyed through foster care and adoption, Xavier's life was not easy and the lasting impact of trauma was always evident. Despite the love and support of so many who knew him through the turbulent years, he continually struggled to see himself as God, his family, and his friends do. We grieve for the pain Xavier carried, and for the life he chose to cut short.

A memorial service will be held at Thornapple Covenant Church in Grand Rapids on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 4:00 pm. A time of visitation will precede the service from 2-4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Xavier's name to Ele's Place of West Michigan.
