William W. Mehrhoff, age 96, of Cleveland,departed this life on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.Veteran, civil servant, advocate, father, and grandfather. However you knew William W Mehrhoff, you knew that he was a servant. He chose as a teenager to serve his country in WWII in the United States Navy. William also chose to serve in the Peace Corps. He then chose to serve the community of his birth, Brooklyn New York, by working as a building inspector. Later in life, he became an advocate and sponsor for the people of Mabanta, Sierra Leone, Africa. He personally sponsored 5 people to come to the United States and helped them to establish a life here. He then continued to help countless others in Mabanta by paying for medical care in their time of need. He loved the Lord as a faithful Lutheran and attended the Bowman Hills Adventist Church. He was preceded in death by Alice Kollegger, Eleanor Bergman, and Robert Mehrhoff.
He was the beloved husband of Rosie, beloved father of Jeffrey, Brian, Peter, and Axel, beloved grandfather of Gregory, Jessica, Christina, Jonathan, Karl and Luke, and great grandfather of Alex and Logan. He was also the beloved brother of Irma Reilly and Charlie Mehrhoff.
Services for William W. Mehrhoff will be held at 3p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1-3p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday.
A Graveside service will be held at 11 am Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors
