William Harrison Stoner, Jr. "Billy", of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024. Billy was born on September 22, 1944, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Billy was a lifelong musician and singer, starting as a member of the Chattanooga Boys Choir. In 1970's, he was at the forefront of the Austin, Texas progressive country music scene with his band "Plum Nelly". They played shows with Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Waylon Jennings, and many others. In 2012, His friend and bandmate Ernie Gammage produced the album "Plum Nelly-Used to be a Redneck" showcasing the bands 1970's music. In 1980, Billy recorded songs that would later become his self-titled album "Billy Stoner". This album was released in 2017 with the help of his good friend and fellow artist Jemima James. Later in life he worked as a truck driver but never lost his love of music.
Billy is survived by his sister, Sally Stoner Eller, niece Beverly Eller, nephews Ron Eller (Jeanne), Robert Eller (Melanie), great nieces and great nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents William Harrison Stoner, Roberta Thatcher Stoner, and sister Garnette Stoner O'Rear. The family gives special thanks to Billy Long for being such a trusted friend.
Family and friends will gather at St. Marks Church in "The Well", 701 Mississippi Ave, Chattanooga, Tennessee, 37405 Saturday, August 31 at 3:00 for a casual celebration and remembrance of Billy's life.
