Obituary
The Cleveland community lost one of its finest members on August 10, 2013, when William Scott Hicks met his Savior face-to-face.
Scott was the son of Sonny and Pat Hicks, the oldest of three children – sister, Kellye Hicks Bender, and brother, Wesley Patrick Hicks. His God-parents were Eddie and Milteen Cartwright, also of Cleveland. A lifelong resident of Cleveland, Scott attended Mayfield Elementary School, Cleveland Junior High School, and Cleveland High School (Class of 1977). He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Scott spent most of his early life as a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was an owner of Hicks Sales and Universal Assemblies, two family businesses he helped found and grow.
Scott was married to Robin Roberts Hicks for 33 years. She was his best friend and the love of his life. The two were a shining example of a Christ-centered marriage. Scott and Robin raised two children whom he adored, David Hicks and Laura Harris, both of Cleveland. He loved his son-in-law, Kyle, and daughter-in-law, Tami, as his own. The joy he felt being “Bubba” to his four precious grandchildren was unsurpassed.
Scott was an especially active member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland, where he served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, a member of several committees, a leader of numerous Bible studies, and an all-around servant and encourager of others. He loved Jesus Christ and lived a life of worship and service to his Savior. Scott was an enthusiastic patron of many local organizations and a willing helper to any individual in need. He was a great supporter of local schools and sports teams, volunteering his time and resources to help young people succeed.
He is survived by his wife - Robin; children - David (Tami) and Laura (Kyle); grandchildren - Brooklynn, Hadley, Hayes, and Jackson; parents - Sonny and Pat; sister - Kellye (Andy); brother - Wes (Amy); mother-in-law - Jodie; brother-in-law - Mike (Patti); nieces and nephews - Tyler, Brad, Brannon, Kate, Kari, and Mary Elizabeth. Also his dear friends - Rick Barnett, Kent Berry, Mike Sharp, Kevin Moore, Jim Gibson, Larry McSpadden, Andy Davis, Scott Brown, Eric Moyen, Jake Stum, and countless others. His loved ones look forward to a glorious reunion with him in the future.
