William Jennings "Jen" Johnson

Obituary

William Jennings “Jen” Johnson, 88 a lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Sunday night, April 6th, 2014 in a Chattanooga hospital. Jen was born in Bradley County on November 30th, 1925 a son of the late Joe and Cecil Johnson. He was of the Christian faith and a long time member of the Chestuee United Methodist Church. Jen was an honorable discharge veteran of the United States Army after faithfully serving his country during World War II. Jen was a founding partner in the Johnson Brothers Cabinet Shop. He also had been inducted and a member of the Bradley County Old Timers Hall of Fame. Above all though, Jen will be remembered for being a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by eighteen siblings and one grandson Caleb Johnson.

Jen leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty one plus years Elaine Brewer Johnson who he affectionately called “his doll”, one daughter and son-in-law June and Donnie Sullivan, two sons Kevin Johnson and his wife Terry and Todd Johnson all of Cleveland. He is also survived by three grandchildren Levi Johnson, Lydia Morgan Ledford (Scott) and Travis Morgan, three great grandchildren Kyler Moore, Ashlyn Ledford and Jake Ledford, one sister Mary Ruth Tinsley, one brother Clint E. “Mickey” Johnson, numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Tuesday night, April 8th, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the Clingan Ridge Baptist Church located at 2412 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Betsy Switzer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service time.

The family will assemble on Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Chilcutt Cemetery for the interment and committal service which will conclude with full military honors.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made in Jen’s memory to the Chilcutt Cemetery Fund.
