William James Benson

January 13, 1931 — October 5, 2019

William "Bill” James Benson, age 88 of Cleveland, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Bill was born in Franklin County TN, to the late George and Clara (Cox) Benson. Bill was a member of Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy and served as a deacon for 50 years. He was a gifted singer and pianist and loved southern gospel. Bill combined these passions and spent many years traveling the southeast with The Benson Family doing what he loved most, singing, worshiping the Lord, and spending time with his family and friends. Bill served as the Vice President of Construction for Red Food Stores and later owned Benson Construction. He was also a pilot and loved flying. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He touched many people's lives and was loved and respected by everyone that knew him.
He is preceeded in death by his sister Bonnie Mae Benson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Jane Lou Benson; children, Mike (Linda) Benson, Donna Jean Hagel, Howard Benson, Marty (Tina) Benson, and Bryan (Sheree) Benson; sister Maxine (Billy) Plattenburg of Winchester; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many other loving family and friends.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Tuesday,October 8, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Keith Street Church of God of Prophecy, Cleveland. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, October 7, 2019 at Keith Street Church of God of Prophecy.
