William Burdick

William Oran Burdick, 84, a proud veteran of the army, passed away on Monday, December 4th naturally and peacefully surrounded by family in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gwendolyn (Dickey) Burdick; daughter, Tammi (Burdick) Harden; and grandchildren, William "Rance" Harden and wife Kimberly, and Thomas "Jake" Harden.

The son of Cecil Sowell Burdick and Delcie Irene Butler, Bill grew up in Summertown, Tennessee. He was born June 1st, 1939, and attended Summertown High School and later studied woodworking, small engine repair, and electrical engineering.

At the age of 20, Bill enlisted in the army and served as a Medical Laboratory Specialist and Veterinary Animal Specialist. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He valued this service highly, and after 20+ years retired to work as a Game Warden, Craftsman, mentor, and small business owner. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, loving husband, father, and grandfather. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish, hunt, and spend time on the river. Bill was a Tennessee Volunteer fan to his core and shared this love with his family.

A funeral service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, December 29th at 1:00 PM.
