William “Bug” White, age 77 passed away on September 16, 2018. He was a graduate of Bradley Central high school where he was considered one of the best linemen to ever attend Bradley, and was named an All State Tackle. He received a football scholarship to MTSU and was starting Tackle and Freshman All Conference. He was invited to try out for three pro teams, the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and San Diego Chargers. He was inducted into the Bradley Football Hall of Fame in 2007. William left behind a legacy of the “Bug White” stories at Olin Chemicals where he was an employee for 37 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who treasured hunting with his grandsons in Mississippi, and was a legend for his unorthodox techniques for bagging monster bucks. “Bug” enjoyed cutting up with his granddaughters and they also had a special place in his heart. He never met a stranger and he was always willing to help one. He cherished his friendship with his close companion Mary Williamson.
He is preceded in death by his parents Kermit and Dorothy Dyer White.
He will be missed by his four children, Luanne White Helms and Jeff (Kim) White all of Collierville TN, Mary Dawn (Robbie) Newberry of Murfreesboro TN, and Shannon (Kenny) Lawson of Charleston TN; grandchildren, Taylor, Carson, and Ashton White, and Natalie Newberry; siblings, Jack (Nancy) White, Bob (Fran) White, Sam White, and Alecia (Fred) Harned, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
There will be a celebration of life gathering for “Bug” on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 4-6pm at Companion Funeral Home: Cleveland Chapel.
The White Family would like to give a special thanks to Chassidy Tipton and Dr. Renee Collins, who not only gave great care, but showed love to “Bug”.
