Wanda Faye Grider

January 5, 1929 — December 2, 2020

Wanda Faye Grider, 91, longtime resident of Cleveland was called home to be with her
Heavenly Father on December 2 nd , 2020 after several years of battling Alzheimer’s
disease.
Wanda was born on January 5, 1929 to the late Carson and Ethel Burnette. An active
member of Red Hill United Methodist Church, she taught the adult Sunday School class
and served as the leader of the Pastor Parish Committee until her health declined. Wanda
retired from the Department of Human Services in Cleveland following 20 years of
dedicated service.
She found her greatest joy in giving to others. Wanda gave freely of her time and
frequently helped those less fortunate in her community. She was a generous supporter
of many charities both local and national.
Wanda was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry and she was a most formidable
opponent in a game of Scrabble. She took great satisfaction in home canning garden
vegetables grown by her son and son-in-law. She dearly loved her children,
grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings and the whole extended family. She took
great joy in cooking big holiday meals for them and having so many loved ones there that
it was standing room only at Aunt Nunnie’s house.
Preceding her in death were her grandson, Tadd A. Grider, her sister Marie Kiser and her
brothers Amos Burnette and Columbus Burnette.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her two children, Marilyn Smith (Doug) and
Greg Grider (Robin); her special granddaughter, Whitney Bowman (Dustin); her four
beloved great-grandchildren: Katie Grider, Hannah Grider, Avery Bowman and Grey
Bowman; her sisters, Mariam Starling, and Patsy Turner (Ed); one sister-in-law Dot
Eslinger (Dennis); several special nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be no visitation. You are invited to share a personal
memory of Wanda or your condolences for her family at her online memorial located at
www.companionfunerals.com .
A private graveside service conducted by Carolyn Braddy for the family is planned for
Sunday, December 6th at 2:00 PM at the Red Hill Cemetery. The family requests that, in
lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Red Hill Community Cemetery Fund,
c/o Debi Conner, 327 Strawhill Rd. SE, Cleveland, TN 37323
The family would like to express their most sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the
wonderful staff at Bradley Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center for the professional care
and loving attention they provided Wanda.
