Walter M. Chastain

Walter M. Chastain, 76, of Cleveland, passed away Monday January 24, 2022 at his home after a lengthy illness. He loved gardening, playing cards with his family, and above all spending time with his loved ones in Reliance, where he was raised.

He served in the United States Army from 1965-1968, as a lineman. He retired from Bowater Papermill after 34 years. Walter was preceded in death by his mother Lennie Chastain and father Jesse Chastain; his sons Jesse and Marty Chastain; his siblings: Bernice Rogers, Eunice Kerr, Grady Chastain, Vance Chastain, and Jessie Lou James.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 56 years, Linda; children: Jill Holt (Duane) and Tara Davis (Clint) and his daughter in law Sissy Chastain; grandchildren: Jesse Lowe, Chelsea Cross, Harlie Chastain, Clint, Peyton, and Carmen Davis; Chase and Alyssa Holt; and several great grandchildren. Siblings: Faye Beard, Ronnie Chastain, Curtis Chastain, and Marvin Chastain.

A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at 7pm on Thursday January 27, 2022 at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home with a visitation prior from 5pm to 7pm. He will be laid to rest at a graveside service at 11:00am on Friday January 28th at Burchfield Cemetery.
