Vivian Harris, 93, lifelong resident of Cleveland and Chattanooga, passed away November 17, 2024, at home. She was born August 17, 1931, to the late Reverand Lawrence and Marie Petit Young. She was of the Baptist faith and served her Lord well, playing piano at churches all over the Cleveland and Chattanooga areas from the time she was nine years old until shortly before her death. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Ulyess Harris, to whom she was married for 70+ years. They often told the story that they met when he peaked through the window at Bristol Baptist Church to see the new preacher's daughter.
Vivian affected many young peoples lives, first as a substitute teacher at Hillcrest Elementary and then as a school nurse at J.B. Brown Junior High and Hixson High School. She also served as President of the PTA at Hillcrest and was awarded lifetime membership in the PTA for her service.
She is survived by her daughters, Melody Harris McClure Costa and Rebekah Harris Whitaker (Sam); grandchildren, Spring McClure, Matt McClure, Justin McClure, Jennifer Taber and Bobby Taber; and great-children, Kalix McClure, Kalel McClure, Riley McClure and Cora McClure. She was pre-deceased by her son, Richard Taber and her son-in-law Mario Costa.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 12:00 pm at Stanfield Baptist Church, with Pastor Mike Rymer & Pastor David Evans officiating. Burial will be at Stanfield Baptist Church Cemetery, following the service.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am to noon prior to the service.
