With a deep sense of sorrow and loss our family announces the passing of our sister, mother, grandma and great grandma Virginia Russell Hodgson. She went to be with the Lord and reunited with her husband of 55 years, James Neil Hodgson on Monday September 30, 2024.
Virginia was born to Arthur Blake Russell and Lula Felicia Denton Russell on April 15, 1935 in Cleveland. She is preceded in death by her parents and 6 siblings Juanita Ratcliff, Kenneth Russell, Melba Chapman, Norma Noblitt, Charlotte Williams, and Bobby Russell. She is survived by her sister Ellen Canova, sisters-in law Barbara Caldwell, Betty Burnette and Norma Jean Hodgson.
Three children: James Blake Hodgson (Tammy), Janice Hodgson Frazier (Ben) and Judy Hodgson Gilley (Dan).
Grandchildren: Heather Frazier Charles, James Lewis (Karen), Alex Gilley, Carmen Frazier Cartwright (Chris), Laura Wiles, Beau Gilley (Tamara) and Celia Wynne (John).
Great grandchildren: Grant Charles (Lydia) Camlyn Cartwright, Carlee Cartwright, Chloe Lewis, Jack, Edward and Isla Wiles, Melody, Timothy and Jeremy Meyer, Scarlett Gilley, Everett Self, Silas and Coley Wynne. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was a 1952 graduate of Bradley High School and married Jim in 1953. She is retired from American Uniform Company. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Ocoee chapter of DAR since 2018. She enjoyed scrapbooking, watching sports, family genealogy research and spending time with her family.
Visitation will be held at Companion Funeral home on Georgetown Rd in Cleveland on Monday, Oct 7th from 4pm-6pm with service to follow. Graveside service Tuesday, October 8 th at 10am at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Reverend Joe Brooks officiating.
