Virgil Louis Jones, 85, of Huntsville, AL, and a former longtime resident of Cleveland, TN, departed his earthly life on Saturday April 16, 2022.
Born on Aug. 21, 1936 in Murphy, NC to the late Maude Fricks Jones and Edward Jones, he grew up in rural Monroe County, TN and was a 1955 graduate of Tellico Plains High School. Virgil retired from Duracell Battery in 1999, having worked as a tool-and-die maker. He was a member of North Cleveland Baptist Church while in Cleveland and Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports and traveling. In 2021, a trip to Rhode Island ensured he saw all 50 states in his lifetime.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Edith Lindner and brothers: Durward Jones, Nolan Jones, and Jimmy Jones.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of more than 60 years, Margaret Bailey Jones, children: Lisa Jones of Huntsville; Darrell Jones of Cleveland; and David (Danise) Jones of Ankeny, Iowa: grandchildren: Erin White of Weehawken, N.J.; Josh (Kayle) Jones and Ellie Jones, all of Cleveland; Jacob Jones and Caroline Jones, both of Ankeny; sisters: Eva Nida, Wanda Jones, Glenda Hyatt and Dorothy Jones; brothers: Rex (Alene) Jones and Kenneth Jones; as well as a host of special family members and friends whose amazing love and generosity during Virgil’s recent illness will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends from 10am until 11am on Tuesday April 19th at North Cleveland Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11am. Interment will be at Spring Creek Cemetery in Riceville, TN following the service.
