Obituary
Vicki Murphy, 67, of ClevelandTN, died peacefully Saturday morning, May 30, 2015 after an amazing life dedicated to helping others.
Mr. & Mrs. L.J. (Vivian-Grantham) Murphy welcomed Vicki into heaven, as well as, onto Earth on August 25, 1947. Awaiting Vicki at the gates of heaven include a vast amount of loved ones, including furry companions. We, on Earth, are now blessed with thoughts of the reunions.
Vicki attended Stuart Elementary and graduated from Bradley High in 1966. She attended LeeCollege, but was dismissed for demonstrating her rights for freedom of religion. Being an independent woman of the 1960s, a devoted Catholic, Aunt Vicki packed up her VW bug and moved to Chattanooga. She attended the University at Tennessee of Chattanooga, upon graduation immediately went to work for the Department of Children Services, where she fully dedicated 40 years of service.
Janet Geitner, her best friend since childhood, was by her side until her death. Together the two protested the Vietnam War, travelled to Europe, with the sole purpose to see the Loch ness monster, and seen Paul McCartney in concert.
Aunt Vicki enjoyed all chocolates and to celebrate, often would have dessert before dinner. She would complain about drivers in Cleveland and considered herself a true Chattanoogan until the day she died. She loved old Hollywood, James Dean and the Beatles. Her biggest bragging rights included assisting in adoptions of children, meeting Paul McCartney and Kyle Bush.
A mass will be held in her honor at St. Theresa Catholic Church on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception with her surviving family: Sister, Neva Murphy-Chase, Nephews: Todd Crisp, Joe Crisp, Conway Martel, Niece: Jennifer Martel. The Great generation: Nathan Crisp, Betty Hoover, Zowie Gatlin, Jacob Crisp, and Matthew Crisp. Goddaughter: Scout Mullin.
Aunt Vicki would have preferred donations to Tennessee Humane Animal Leagues Pet Placement Center of Chattanooga, in lieu of flowers in her memory.
You are encouraged to share a memory of Vicki and/or your personal condolences with her family by visiting her memorial web page and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com.
Companion Funeral Home and the Cody family are honored to assist the Murphy family with her arrangements.
