Vance Walter Walker, 89 of Cleveland, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020. He retired from the United States Army after serving for over 23 years. His service included two tours in Vietnam and one in Korea. Vance received 2 Purple Hearts throughout his service, which also resulted in one year in the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center burn unit following a deadly land mine explosion. Vance was the recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Service Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal during his service in the Korean War. He also received a Campaign Medal and a Service Medal during his time in the Vietnam War. Vance was an avid and talented golfer for all of his life. He won multiple Father-Son Tournaments at the Waterville Golf Course. He has 13 Hole-In-Ones, most of which are at Waterville, and has collected many other golf accolades.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Burger.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Carol Walker; children, Vicki Walker, Vance (Delethya) Walker, II, and Jeanne Walker; grandchildren, Nicholas, Timyrah, and Joy of Cleveland, and Josh Walker, Dhalia, Deisi, and Xochill Medina of Dalton, GA.
The family will receive friends from 9:00AM until 11:00AM on Monday, September 21, 2020 in the Chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2415 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland. A Celebration of Vance’s life will begin at 11:00AM. Vance will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery immediately following the service.
