Treacie "Jackie" Jacquelene Dowdy

May 15, 1936 — January 30, 2018

Treacie “Jackie” Jacquelene Dowdy, 81, of Georgetown, TN passed January 30, 2018 at a local nursing facility with her daughter by her side. She was born on May 15, 1936 in Rosedale, MS to the late Herchel Paul and Mary Lou Triplett Pell. On February 21, 1955 in Meigs County, TN she married her best friend, the love of her life, Jimmy “Jim” Ray Dowdy who preceded her in death on July 13, 2010. Jim and Jackie shared 55 years of loyalty and dedication in a marriage where each enjoyed spoiling the other. Jim lovingly nicknamed her “Quail.” She was a lifelong resident of this area. During the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Jackie worked at both Coppinger Color Lab and as Cleveland’s premier Avon lady. Year after year she consistently won the prestigious Presidential Awards with Avon, of which she was very proud. Being in the President’s Club allowed Jackie and her husband to travel the US while attending Avon conventions and conferences. This enabled them to acquire the largest Avon collection in the US, which was very popular at the time. This was a most special time together for them. Jackie was a one of a kind mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was lovingly called, “Nana.” She cared for her tri-generational “babies” with a rare, unconditional love regardless of their age. Nothing made her happier than spending time with them. It was not unusual to see her driving up and down I-75 at a moments notice to pick them up in either Rome or Marietta, GA. It was a standing family joke that Nana could drive I-75 blindfolded. She was also a dedicated aunt who enjoyed a special nurturing relationship with many nieces and nephews. During their youth, you could almost always find one or more of them with their Aunt Jackie. When her great grandchildren, Braxton and Sierra, were born she blossomed like a prized rose. This was fitting, because during her younger years, she was also an avid rose gardener who loved supplying friends and family with her flowers. Her favorite rose was the “Tiffany Rose,” in honor of her granddaughter, Tiffany. The Tiffany Rose still thrives today at her river house, “The Quails Roost,” established 1991. Her hobbies also included old fashioned, handmade quilt making. This art was taught to Jackie by her mother Mary Lou, aunt Treacie, and grandmother Lillie Jane. She completed her first handmade quilt at nine years of age, but made dozens through the years. Today these quilts are being enjoyed by a diversity of people. Jackie said, the highlight of her quilting was when her grandson Tyler asked her to exhibit and explain the art to his elementary school class.
Jackie wished to share this special poem with her family: “I am with you still. I give you this one thought to keep, I am with you still-do not weep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn’s rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone-I am with you still-in each new dawn.”
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents William Fate and Lillie Jane McKissack Triplett; paternal grandparents Joseph William and Leomie Key Pell; two infant sisters Jane Pell and Janice Pell; sister Pauline Pell Dyer; brothers Gene Pell and Steve Pell.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Sandy Marlin; grandchildren: Tiffany Jennette and Tyler Marlin; great grandchildren Braxton Hesson and Sierra Phillips; aunt Thelma Pell; sisters in law Ruth Pell and Jeanne Pell; brother in law Jack Dowdy; beloved cousins Betty Longley and Rosa Rymer; special neighbor friends Don and Kay Cowan, Marguerite “Mugs” Smith (late husband Gary), Thomas “Skeet” Phillips (late wife Ruth), Jimmie Cissom (late husband Johnny). In addition to these she leaves behind numerous special extended family members and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Signature Health Care for their love and compassion during Jackie’s rehabilitation and illness, especially Autumn and Jessica.
The family will receive friends on Saturday February 3, 2018 from 12:30pm until 1:30pm at Eastview Chapel located at 1393 Eastview Circle, Georgetown, TN 37336. A funeral service will take place at 1:30pm on Saturday at Eastview Chapel with Rev. Tony Dixon officiating. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Jackie or your condolences with her family at her online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral and Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Dowdy family with these arrangements.
