Toby Wiersema

July 10, 1968 — September 21, 2023

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Toby "Tobilly" Wiersema, Who preferred to be addressed as Tobilly, on September 21, 2023. Toby was born on July 10th, 1968 and lived a vibrant life, full of laughter, love, and an enduring appreciation for the simple pleasures. His presence will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on through the memories and stories shared by his loved ones.

Toby leaves behind his beloved wife, Angie Wiersema, and their children: Tiffany & Andrew Biela, Jessica & Michael Brown, Andrew Shaw, and Violet Wiersema. He was a cherished brother to Bonnie O'Brian, Vicky Schlotfeldt, David Wiersema, Randy Wiersema, Jane Young, and Debra Rosenberg. His love extended to his grandchildren: Kenzie Brown, Brentley Brown, Jr Brown, Syd Shaw, Sky Shaw, Kj Simmons, Keke Simmons, Blaise Shaw, Bentley Shaw, Jazzy Talbert, and Dallas Schloemer, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins. Toby was predeceased by his father Harold Wiersema, mother Annette Hook, brother Rick Wiersema, brother-in-law Ron Schlotfeldt, and mother-in-law Susie Barton.

Known for his unique sense of humor, Toby could light up any room with his quick wit and hearty laugh. He often described himself as a 'smart ass' with a love for teasing those whom he held close to his heart. His hardworking nature was complemented by his love for singing, driving around in his Volkswagen bug, and for stopping in for karaoke wherever and whenever he could. In his free time, Toby enjoyed playing with his grandchildren watching episodes of Gunsmoke and just sitting around bullshitting with family and friends.

Toby's passion for life was reflected in his food choices, notably liver and onions, along with his discovery of the Beach slaw dog, which he refusedto try for 28 years.

His love for ACDC and Patsy Cline particularly the songs "TNT" and "Crazy," is well remembered by all. Toby had a simple yet profound appreciation for the art created by his children and grandchildren, which he described as his favorite pieces.

Toby's legacy is a vibrant tapestry of well-sung rock and roll songs, hard work, and ceaseless humor. Among his proudest moments was being the runner-up in the Illinois state fair Karaoke contest. His memorable trips to Tennessee and his love for any place with karaoke underscore his love for life and his unique personality. Toby also attended brown hill church.

As we mourn Toby's passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived. His life-long lesson to work hard, sing with your whole heart, and always have a joke ready resonates with all who knew him. His legacy continues in the laughter and music he shared with everyone and the love he had for his family and friends. Rest in peace, Tobilly.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on October 7, 2023 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Brown Hill Church 1526 Mecca Pike, Tellico Plains, Tennessee.
