Tim Winder

October 19, 1956 — June 28, 2024

Tim Winder, a devoted law enforcement officer, martial artist, loving husband, Dad and Poppy passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication. Born on October 19, 1956 with a heart for public service, Tim began his illustrious career at the tender age of 19 with the McMinn County Sheriff's Department.

His passion for community service guided him through an exemplary career that saw him serve at the McMinn County Sheriff's Department, Athens City Police Department, the Cleveland City Police Department and the Bradley County Sheriff's Department. Throughout his career, Tim wore many hats with pride and excellence. Starting as a patrol officer, he quickly proved his mettle and earned a place on the SWAT team. His leadership skills were recognized early on and he became a field training officer sharing his knowledge and expertise with new recruits.

Tim's journey in law enforcement saw him rise through the ranks serving as Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant and Patrol Lieutenant. He distinguished himself as the SWAT Commander and eventually became the supervising Lieutenant over the Cleveland Police Department's training program. Additionally, Tim was a respected firearms and defensive tactics instructor, passionately imparting his skills to his fellow officers.

Tim retired from the Cleveland Police Department in 2018 after 35 years of exemplary service, however, his deep rooted commitment to law enforcement never waned. Even in retirement, he continued to service his community by working part-time for the Bradley County Sherifff's Office as a court officer.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tim was a formidable martial artist. He held a third-degree black belt in Isshinryu Karate, a brown belt in Aiki Jujitsu and a blue belt in Brazilian Jujitsu. His discipline and dedication to martial arts mirrored his commitment to law enforcement and showcased his unyielding spirit and perseverance.

Above anything he accomplished professionally, his greatest blessings were his children. He was always involved in their care and involved in every activity in which they were active. He took great pride in their accomplishments and always encouraged them to be the greatest people they could be. Years later, he took on the role of Poppy and again, stepped up to the plate helping their parents with the grandbaby's activities. Tim found much joy in the tranquility of farming. He cherished his time on his farm where he developed a special bond with his beloved Mahindra tractor. An avid sunflower gardener, Tim took great pride in cultivating sunflowers for his wife, a testament to his enduring love and devotion. He also delighted in tending to baby calves, chickens, and his much-loved Dachshund, Buddy Cooper.

Tim became a Christian in August 2020 and became a bigger, better man. He spent much time in the scriptures in the evenings and would often quote scripture when troubling times came around. He found a peace he had never known before when he developed a personal relationship with the Lord. He attended First Baptist Church Cleveland where he was awestruck by the choir each Sunday morning.

Tim's life was a tapestry of bravery, service and love. He touched many lives through his unwavering commitment to protecting and serving his community, his mentorship and his passion for life. His legacy will be remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless individuals who had the privilege of knowing him.

Tim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Denise Milen Winder. his children Bayley (Josh) Rose and Zane (Mia) Winder as well as his grandchildren whom he adored--Adelaide Rose, Savannah Rose and Benton Rose. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Winder Moser as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Odessa Winder, as well as his daughter, Ashley Deneen Winder. In this season of sorrow, we find comfort knowing that Tim is celebrating in heaven alongside his daughter and his Savior. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide us and will remind of the values he stood for: dedication, integrity and love.
