Thomas Earl Gaby

Thomas Earl Gaby, 70, of Athens, TN passed away on February 18, 2018 in a hospice care facility at the VA hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. Tom was born in Athens, TN and attended City Park School, McMinn County High School and graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College. Tom joined the United States Army and spent a tour of duty in Vietnam and eighteen months in Germany before receiving his honorable discharge. He battled for years with MS. He worked from 1973 to 1987 for the Internal Revenue Service until his MS forced his retirement.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Helen Gaby.

Tom is survived by his wife Lillian Cantrell Gaby and his two sons Bradford Earl Gaby and Gregory Todd Gaby, two grandchildren Jonathan and Cheyanne Gaby, one sister Elizabeth Gaby Hoskins and two nieces Jami Wise & Jennifer Cleveland and one great niece Grace Cleveland. He is also survived by numerous other extended family members and host of special friends.


A remembrance of life service is planned for Wednesday night, February 21, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 400 S White with Reverend Steve Byrum officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service time.

The interment and committal service will take place on Thursday morning, February 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM in Sunrise Cemetery in Englewood and will conclude with full military honors.
