Terril Donald Littrell passed away peacefully from this earthly world to eternal life in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his home on Friday, March 14th, 2025.
He was born March 9th, 1941 to James and Leola Littrell in Henderson Kentucky. At his birth, his grandmother Williams said that he would be a minister one day. At the age of 10 he made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as his personal savior, at the age of 15 he preached his first sermon at Roberts Methodist Church in Roberts Kentucky.
He married his high school sweetheart, Chloe Ann Johnson, daughter of Morton Johnson, a Pentecostal minister and his wife Eula Mae Johnson from Beech Creek, Kentucky. He and Chloe were youth ministers early in their marriage before beginning their college educations, he served as a student pastor and later he and his family moved to Missouri.
He graduated from both Evangel College B.S. and Missouri State University M.A. He became involved in a broader state-wide ecumenical ministry with the Tennessee Association of churches while attending Emory University, Cander School of Theology and earned a Doctorate of Theology.
He was a lifetime member of the NAACP and the Christian Leadership Conference.
In 1975, he and his young family moved to Cleveland where he was involved in Christian Education and the Community Wide ecumenical outreach.
In 1980 he was a circuit rider pastor of two churches In Rhea County, Tennessee, he later moved to Chattanooga Tennessee while serving as pastor of various Methodist churches within the Holston Conference including, Bristol Virginia, Bluff City, Tennessee, Morristown Tennessee and eventually back to Cleveland Tennessee where his last pastorate was serving Red Hill United Methodist Church in Bradley County. He retired after 50 years of service.
In 2022, he was confirmed as a member of Mission Cleveland Parish, part of the Anglican Church of North America where he enjoyed worshiping until his death.
He is preceded in death by this father and mother and His wife Chloe Littrell of 59 years, Sister, Joyce Redmon, and infant brother Dale Littrell.
He is survived by his son, Don Littrell (Sherri), their son Reverend Luke Littrell (Blair) their children, Madilyn Grace and Noah Reid; daughter, Terrie Kirkpatrick Simons (Ken), her daughter, Tiffany Ashworth (Jacob) their children Clayton Carl and Kirk Thomas. He is also survived by brother Gary Littrell (Suzanne).
A celebration of life will be held at 6pm on Monday March 17th in the "Ridge Chapel" of Companion Funeral Home located at 2412 Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. Reverend Jason Humberd, Pastor Payton Cody, and Dr. Ron Hill will be officiating. Terril's family will receive friends from 4pm until the 6pm service at the funeral home.
