Obituary
Sylvia Bettina Dixson, 57, a resident of Ocoee, TN passed away in the presence of her family on Tuesday night, December 13, 2011 at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah, TN.
Sylvia will always be fondly remembered and deeply missed by family, friends, her church, and her community. She was a beloved member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Ocoee, TN where she was a long-time children’s Sunday School teacher and was instrumental in their Vacation Bible School ministry. Sylvia was especially fond of the children and senior adults at Smyrna and loved bringing them together. She was active in Polk County High School’s band boosters and was a fixture at the annual Polk County Fair. She also served as a former president of the Ocoee Ruritan Club. Sylvia was known as a loving, friendly soul who never met a stranger and had a huge love of animals. She was employed at American Uniform Company for thirty two years. Sylvia was a daughter of the late Chass and Ruby Dixson. She is also preceded in death by one brother Wesley Ervin Dixson, and a special niece, Dineen Dixon.
She is survived by one sister Lydia and husband Clyde Nail, two brothers Darvin and wife Loretta Dixon, and Leon and wife Dale Dixson, three aunts Waunetta Ledford, Frances Rush, and Alice Goins, three nephews, Tony Dixon, Stan Allen, and Shawn Allen, and two nieces, Leslie Hicks and Lindsey Hawn. She also leaves to cherish her memory four great nephews, three great nieces, and a host of other extended family members.
The funeral service will be on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Smyrna Baptist Church located at 209 Smyrna Road, Ocoee, TN 37361 with the Reverend Jimmy Parm and the Reverend David Evans officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Randy Barnes, Billy Goode, Shawn Allen, Stan Allen, Stanley Allen, and Deran Dixon serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday night December 15, 2011 from 6 to 8 at the Smyrna Baptist Church.
