Shirley Sue Hicks

June 26, 1950 — September 2, 2018

Shirley Sue Hicks, 68, a longtime resident of this area went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, September 2, 2018 from a local hospital. She was born in Athens, TN on June 26, 1950 a daughter of the later Charles & Gussie Harrod. Shirley was of the Independent Pentecostal Faith. She worked in ministry her entire life from teaching Sunday School, leading the Women’s Ministries, playing the piano and singing and doing anything to minister to people alongside her husband of almost 50 years Reverend Lowell Hicks. Shirley was a true people person who had a great love for children.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister Ruth Bradshaw, three brothers Jimmy Harrod, Tommy Harrod and Franklin Harrod and also three infant siblings.

Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Rev. Lowell Hicks, two daughters and sons-in-laws Angela & Bobby Adkins and Renea & Merrick Zachary, fur baby “Penny Hicks”, one son Martin Stewart and wife Carol, four sisters June Mosier (Ronnie), Diana Burns (James), Lucille Gonzales and Juanita Gonzales, one brother Charles Harrod (Suzie), one sister-in-law Ester Harrod, six grandchildren Kela Zachary, Justus Zachary, Codi Jemison, Cassie Shoemaker, Brittany Adkins and Hailey Adkins and four great grandchildren Mariah Jemison, Emma Zachary, Prince Zachary and Gabriel Jemison. She is also survived by numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, September 6, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the parlor of the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home.

A celebration of her life is planned for Friday, September 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Family Worship Center located at 4271 Dalton Pike in Cleveland TN with the Reverend Martin Stewart, Reverend Jimmy Burns and the Reverend Terry Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the Lee Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
