Shirley Kay Church, age 77, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, following a brief illness. Born on November 19, 1947, Shirley lived a life defined by kindness, creativity, and an unwavering belief that God resided in her heart.
Known for her feisty spirit, infectious laughter, and compassionate nature, Shirley brought light and joy to those around her. Whether through a quick-witted remark or a warm gesture, she had a remarkable way of helping others find happiness in everyday moments.
A devoted wife, mother, and aunt, Shirley found great joy in her family and took immense pride in her role as a caregiver and creative soul. She had a natural talent for the arts-especially painting on canvas and restoring antique treasures-and her home reflected the warmth and imagination of her heart. A true animal lover, she held a deep affection for her pets and for all creatures, great and small.
Originally from a loving family, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Havanah (Hart) Toddy; her sisters, Nadean Holmes and Velinda Vesely; and her brothers, Marvel, Gene, Carson, John, and Jerry Toddy.
She was the cherished wife of Woody Church, originally of Chicago, Illinois. Together, they made their home in Benton, Tennessee, where they spent the last 20 years.
Shirley is also survived by her beloved daughter, Michelle English of Naples, Florida, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly: Brenda Holmes, Judy Holmes, Pam Vesely, Lisa Hames, Kathy Kemp, Karen Tuleta, Airiana Toddy, Bob Logan, Randy Toddy, and Tom Toddy.
To honor Shirley's memory and her lifelong love of animals, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local animal shelter.
Shirley Kay Church will be remembered for the beauty she brought into the world-through her art, her laughter, and the love she shared with those around her. She will be deeply missed and forever treasured. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in Girard, Pennsylvania in June, 2025.
