Sherry Dean Carlton, 77, passed away January 12, 2025, at Signature Health Care of Cleveland. A daughter of the late Carmack and Alma Carlton, Sherry was born February 11, 1948.
A lifelong resident of Charleston, TN, Sherry graduated from Charleston High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball. Her love of sports would continue throughout her life. After graduating she began her working experience at the Cleveland Daily Banner. Her career would then transition to Lonza Plant, where she became the first woman Process Operator. This would open the door and pave a way for women to follow. She retired after 21 years.
Left to cherish the memories of many happy times are two brothers, Bill (Rosie) and Norman (Elizabeth) Carlton; sister, Sandra (Rush) Guthrie; two nieces, Dawn (Bob) Benjamin and Paige (Terri) Carlton; nephew, Josh (Carolyn) Guthrie; great niece, Hannah Carlton and great nephew, Adam Guthrie.
Sherry leaves a legacy of loving with a big heart. A special place will always remain in the hearts of her family that only Sherry could fill.
In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by a baby sister, Martha Ann Carlton.
The Memorial Service to honor Sherry will be at Companion Funeral Home Ridge Chapel in the Shelton Parlor on Thursday, January 30, 2025. The family will receive guest beginning at 1:00-3:00, with the service to immediately follow at 3:00. In accordance with her wishes, she will be laid to rest at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
