Shelley Mathews

Shelley Subrina Mathews passed on to her heavenly home on September 4, 2023, from a brief illness with pancreatitis and pneumonia with complications. She was the beloved daughter, born December 22, 1970, of the late Darvin Mathews and Carol Mathews Corum.

Shelley had a lifelong love of learning and was a graduate of Bradley Central High School (1989), Lee College, Walden University, and was nearing completion of her Doctorate of Business.

As co-owner of Ms. Carol's Playschool, Shelley touched the lives of many area children. Shelley loved the Lord. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved pup, Winston, spending time and working on the pool, and being with her family. Shelley was dedicated to her friends and family and never failed to lend a hand to those in need or share a laugh with those around her.

Most recently, Shelley worked at her Alma Mater, Lee University, in the Office of Human Resources, where she developed a work family she loved and who have been so supportive of her and to her family during this time.

Shelley was welcomed to Heaven by her father, Darvin Mathews, her Bonus Dad, Eddie Corum, and her Grandparents.

Honoring her memory here on Earth remain her mother, Carol Mathews Corum; brothers, Heath Mathews and Jason Corum (Michelle); niece, Morgan Vibbert (Aaron); nephews, Garrett and Major Corum; great-nephew, August Vibbert; Aunts Pam Mathews and Gail Walker; dear cousins who were as close as siblings, Phaedra Walker, Wendi Day and Jill Snyder; many other cousins; and numerous friends.

Shelley's heart to give and endless generosity show through with her gift of organ donation.

Shelley's family will recieve friends from 4pm until 6pm on Thursday September 7th at Mt. Olive Church of God. A celebration of life service will be held at 6pm following the visitation.
