Sara E. "Betsy" Owenby

Sara E. “Betsy” Owenby, 79, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away on Friday afternoon, January 19, 2018 at a local health care facility. She was born on July 25, 1938, the second child to the late Edna Elkins Kibble & Dewey Kibble. Betsy graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1956. She went on to marry the love of her life, Robert Owenby, on July 5, 1958. Betsy loved to read and travel, and always had a great love for animals. She was a member of Tasso United Methodist Church since 1961, and was very active in the United Methodist Women up until her health began to decline. She will be remembered as a loving woman with a heart for others, and will be missed by all that knew her.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Smith; brothers, James “Jimmy” Kibble and Joseph Kibble; sister, Mary Jane Scoggins; sisters-in-law, Dorthea Owenby, Wanda Pritchett, and Karen Owenby; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Campbell, Doyle Owenby, William Bryant, and William Pritchett.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 59 years, Robert Owenby; daughter, Beth Kelly and husband Brian; sister, Clare Ruth Campbell; sisters-in-law, Patricia Kibble and Betty Bryant; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Scoggins and Carl Owenby; son-in-law, Larry Smith; grandchildren, Brandon Smith and wife Amy, Tayler Woodson and husband Chris, Isabel & Olive Kelly; and one great-grandson, Bryson Smith.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 on Thursday January 25, 2018 at Companion Funeral Home, located at 2415 Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, TN 37311.
A celebration of life funeral service will follow the visitation, starting at 2:00pm in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home, with Pastor Sean Hayden officiating the service.
Following the service, Ms. Owenby will be laid to rest in the Tasso United Methodist Church Cemetery.
