Samuel Evert Henderson, Jr.

April 17, 1961 — July 28, 2020

Samuel Evert Henderson, Jr. (Sambo) born April 17, 1961, went home to be with the Lord on July 28, 2020. He was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church of Harrison, TN.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Samuel Evert Henderson, Sr. and Rosemary Brown Henderson.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Laura Howard Henderson; siblings, Dale (Beth), Rex (Teri), Sherry (Tim) Walters, Curt (Amie), and Jerry; his many beloved nieces and nephew, Heather, Ashley, Deamen, Thomas, Rex, Jr., Samantha, Kemp, Hannah, Kali, Luke, Kelsey, Jimmy, Bobby, Melanie, Kelsey, and Caitlin; parents-in-law, Roy and Mary; sisters-in-law, Robin, Kelly, and Jessica who affectionately called him “Toetoes,” and brother-in-law, Bo.

He was a good husband, provider and loved his wife more than words are able to express. He made her happy, made her laugh and yes, occasionally got on her nerves, but through it all, they were not only husband and wife but also had a friendship equal to their love for each other.

Sambo loved being out in nature and relaxing by campfire and was never without a hot cup of coffee in his hand. He was a gifted artist of drawing and woodcarving whether it be a walking stick or a totem pole. He said the wood always showed him what to carve. He could take an old beat up jalopy and make it look showroom new. He was funny. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh as well.

Sambo did not let having cancer take his joy away, but every day he would thank God for his blessings regardless of his situation and always had a smile on his face. He loved many and was loved by many, and with a heart and smile as big as his, he will always be remembered. When you think of him may your heart smile.

“I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in Me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.” John 11:25-26.

The family will have a memorial service on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 12:00PM at the Ridgeline Church of God located at 1665 Waterhouse Street in East Ridge.
