Obituary

Sam W. Hayes, 77, a lifelong resident of this area passed away on Wednesday night, November 5th, 2014 in a local hospital. Sam was born on September 13th, 1937 in Cleveland, TN a son of the late Charlie and Lora Hayes. He was of the Baptist faith. Sam was retired from Foam Works in Cleveland and during his life time had also worked at Magic Chief, was a truck driver and a dairyman. He was avid football fan and enjoyed woodworking and working in his yard.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three sisters Mary Lou Goins, Rose Buckner and Lonnie Stoker, five brothers Gene Hayes, Junior Hayes, Dewey Hayes, Hayward Hayes and Richard Hayes.

Sam leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of twenty five years Mable Gibson Hayes, five children Ricky Hayes, Teresa Amick (Rob), Don Hayes, Terry Hayes and Gary Hayes, one step son Michael Toney, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister Barbara Raburn (Ronnie), one brother Eddie Hayes (Bonnie), numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Sunday, November 9th, 2014 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Gary Higgins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the 4:00 PM service time.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made in Sam’s memory to either Hospice of Chattanooga or the Kidney Foundation.
