Russell Lee Stevens was relieved of pain and sickness quietly on the morning of Tuesday, November 10th in his home at the age of 62. Russell suffered from COPD and was recently diagnosed with stage 3 Multiple Myeloma.
Russell is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shelly Stevens; daughters, Jessica Antrim and Jeanette Stevens; grandbabies, Tristan and Zoe-Mae Antrim; big sister Candy Job and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Russell was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Russell and Bettie Stevens and sister, Cindy Hedrick.
Russell was born on June 11, 1958 in Mount Clemens, MI, the youngest of three children. Russell’s family moved to North Carolina during his high school years, where he would meet his wife to be. Russ and Shelly began their life together in Kentucky in 1979. Russell’s artistic passions were ignited early in life and were evident every time he drew or sat behind a set of drums. The humble ease with which he created amusing caricatures or pulled out a drum beat from any song was awe inspiring. His love of music was infectious. The only thing he loved more than music were his baby girls: Jessica, who joined the band in 1981 and Jeanette, who made the family whole in 1996.
Russell was an easy-going soul who required quite simple pleasures to find contentment and unapologetically voiced his opinions. He had little tolerance for stupidity or selfishness while being full of forgiveness if you deserved it. There was not a human being that knew more random music and pop culture trivia and he was more excited when Santa came on Christmas morning than the kids were.
Words cannot express how tremendously he is will be missed. There will be no public services for Russell; however, donations can be made in his honor with the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or the International Myeloma Foundation.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Russell or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral and Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Stevens family with these arrangements.
